The Flash: Or, What is Going on?

So I'm sure you've heard of a show called The Flash. It's getting pretty popular, and for good reason. The plot and characters are well written and developed, and the audience never knows what to expect. However, we can guess. Even though the show has developed its own canon, it borrows heavily from its comic book origins. So with a little research you can try to guess what will happen in the show. (So far I've almost always been wrong.)
WARNING: This post contains some spoilers, read at your own risk
This past Tuesday evening season two episode 16 of The Flash aired after a gruesomely long four week hiatus. Several things happened in the episode that may give us clues into what might happen at the end of the season.

Firstly, Cisco vibes Zoom and Team Flash learns that underneath that creepy scarecrow mask is Jay - or at least someone with his face. Now the reason I say it like that is because I'm not sure that the Jay Garrick they got to know or the Jay Garrick under Zoom's mask are the real Jay Garrick. Unless they are. Or maybe they both are? Ugh, comic book storylines and their complicated explanations.

Now I have several different theories as to what is really going on with the whole 'Jay is Zoom' thing, so be prepared for what could possibly be spoilers. My first theory regarding Zoom is that the Jay Garrick we saw wearing Zoom's mask is the Jay Garrick from Earth 1, introduced to us as Hunter Zolomon. This is backed up by the fact that Zoom in the comics was actually Hunter Zolomon. If this is true, then I think that the Jay who went to Earth 1 and befriended everyone there was who he said he was, Earth 2 Jay who had his speed stolen and was ill on account of speed drugs - OR - the Jay who claimed to be from Earth 2 and befriended everyone was actually a shapeshifter working for Zoom (Hunter Zolomon) and this would explain why when he (or she?) took the Velocity 9 he didn't really seem to know what he was doing and why his DNA was doing weird stuff, because shapeshifters probably would have weird DNA. The shapeshifter theory also explains why Jay lingered near the breach after they got back, maybe waiting for Zoom to pick him back up.

Also, I suppose Hunter Zolomon might not be connected at all and the Jay we saw is the only one there is. I mean, back in season one Harrison Wells Eobard Thawne was able to create an image of there being two of him in one place, why can't Zoom do the same? Or maybe, it is the same Earth 2 Jay, but Zoom is a future version of him? But if that were the case, then Zoom probably wouldn't have killed his past self - unless he didn't actually kill him.

Secondly, I think we may have a clue into why Zoom needs to keep stealing speed. Trajectory (Caitlyn's crazy scientist friend) got majorly addicted to Velocity 9. When she ran, she began to have blue lightening. Who do we know that has blue lightening when he runs? Zoom. Who do we know that used Velocity 9 and other versions of the speed-steroid in the past? Jay Garrick. Whose face is under Zoom's mask? Jay Garrick. What if the reason Zoom keeps stealing speed isn't greed or just him being a jerk and wanting to control everyone, but because he needs the high? Or, if Jay really was sick like he told Caitlyn, then Zoom needs the speed so he doesn't die? Maybe, if Zoom slows down like Trajectory did, he'll burn up and die in the same way she did? I mean, have we ever seen Zoom stand completely still for very long? Trajectory slowed down for quite a while when Barry was talking to her...maybe that's the key. Zoom is never still or slow for very long, he always moves. Maybe he has to keep moving in order to keep the cellular degeneration that Velocity 9 causes from catching up to him, like a shark has to keep swimming forward.

Thirdly, I want to talk about the guy with the iron mask that Zoom had imprisoned. I know he wasn't really in the show this past episode, but I think his identity will be vital to the show.

One theory about his identity is that he is actually Eddie Thawne, because maybe at the end of season one when Eddie's body was sucked into the breach he landed on Earth 2 and was healed and then captured by Zoom because he had information about the Flash. This is backed up by the guy's eye color, which I swear I saw was blue in a close up of his face mask.

However, Jay Garrick also has blue eyes. So if my shapeshifter theory (which is my favorite one) is correct, then maybe Hunter Zolomon went to Earth 1, took Jay's speed, imprisoned him, and placed a shapeshifter in the Flash's inner circle to give him information. But then, why would Zoom keep Jay alive? Maybe it's because Zoom is a future version of Jay like I mentioned above? Or what if the guy in the iron mask is Henry Allen? I don't know how that one would work, but it sure would be a plot twister!

A few notes before I end this really long post, I looked up Jesse Wells because I was interested in her backstory and found out that she is based on comic book character Jesse Quick - who is also a speedster and has connections to Wally West.

Just one final thing, I don't own the Flash or write the plot, so everything in this post is pure speculation. If you have anything to add, please comment about it! I would love to know any other theories on Zoom and the direction of the plot. I will be posting again tonight or in the next few days about the Flash and Supergirl crossover event tonight! I am so excited about it!
